Commission E reports contraindications of bark with leaf: acute pancreatitis (though recommended for pancreatic insufficiency), severe hepatic dysfunction, bile stones, biliary obstruction, empyema of gall bladder, ileus; adverse effects: photosensitivity remotely possible due to hypericin and pseudohypericin. Should not be used for more than 2 months (AEH; KOM; PHR; PH2).
